GMC Truck Owner Gets Transmission and Rear Differential Rebuilt
Cruz drives a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 with over 275,000 miles on it. Recently, he began experiencing transmission trouble. It was slipping when in 1st gear and was shifting very roughly between 2nd and 3rd gears. Cruz also noticed a whining noise that he thought may be his rear differential. He brought his truck to Ralph’s Transmission for a thorough inspection and professional diagnosis.
“I would like to start by thanking the owner Mario and his friendly staff for a awesome experience,” Cruz says. “From the moment I walked in they were very professional. Mario was never too busy to answer any questions or concerns that I had about having to have my transmission and rear differential repaired. They performed their inspection, then called me with a very reasonable price and kept me updated with the progress.”
Diagnostic testing revealed fault code relating to misfiring cylinders in the powertrain control module. The transmission fluid was full, but very discolored. A road test confirmed the shifting and whining issues the customer had described. Internal inspection showed the 2-3 clutches had failed, and a number of other internal components were significantly worn or damaged. Items that needed to be replaced included the torque converter, several solenoids, clutch plates and rear gear train.
The best recommendation in this situation was a full custom transmission rebuild. We were able to remove, clean and decontaminate each part of the transmission. Any damaged components were replaced and healthy components were professionally cleaned. We also flushed the transmission cooler line to remove any contaminants that were built up inside. The transmission was completely rebuilt and is now backed by our 3 Year, 100,000 Mile Warranty program.
In addition to the transmission rebuild, Cruz had us rebuild his rear differential. Unfortunately, it was improperly rebuilt by his previous mechanic. The ring and pinion were making noise and several parts needed to be replaced inside the unit.
“I waited for almost two weeks to post this review driving my truck to work and back approximately 80 miles a day just to see how it performs,” Cruz adds. “I’m happy to say ‘it runs great!’ I’ve owned this truck for 12 years and it never ran this smoothly, it’s a pleasure to drive it every day now. I’m restoring this truck to keep in our family and this has been an awesome part of the experience. Thank you again Ralph’s Transmission. You scored a 10 out of 10 in my book. I will refer anyone who needs a new transmission or rear end to your shop.”
Thank you for the review, Cruz. It was a big repair job, but we are glad to hear your truck is running well again and standing up to the high daily mileage demands.
