Chevy Truck Owner Gets Transmission Inspected at Ralph’s Transmission

Anthony drives a 2020 Chevy Colorado. He had been experiencing some transmission issues recently, after having it serviced by another local automotive shop. They replaced the transmission fluid, but didn’t replace the transmission filter or perform any thorough testing. Anthony noticed that the truck was vibrating and shaking when driving in higher gears. He was worried it might be a torque converter problem or at least something related to his recent transmission service.

Anthony decided to bring his Chevy truck to the Central Valley transmission experts at Ralph’s Transmission for a proper inspection and diagnosis. Diagnostic testing revealed a fault code with the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) sensor. Inspection of the transmission fluid showed that the level was about three quarts too low and the fluid was darker than it should be. It was not quite burnt yet, but there clearly was an issue that needed to be addressed. The transmission pan had some clutch and carbon material inside, pointing to some sort of internal damage that would require further inspection. Road testing confirmed the shuddering and vibrating that Anthony had described.

The technicians at Ralph’s Transmission recommended three services for Anthony to address these problems:

  1. Full Transmission Service—The transmission fluid and filter were replaced, and the transmission pan was professionally cleaned.
  2. Replacement of TFT Sensor—The faulty TFT sensor was replaced, along with the harness that was the source of the vibrations he was feeling when driving at higher speeds.
  3. Full Internal Inspection—We recommended that the transmission be removed from the vehicle and internally inspected. This is a more in-depth inspection process that is required when internal transmission damage is a potential source of trouble. Anthony declined this service for the time being. We’ll be ready to help if he decides to bring his truck in again for further internal inspection.

“Erika [Alcazar, service advisor] was very knowledgeable and helped me get my truck back on the road,” Anthony says in his recent Google review. “Ralph’s Transmission to me is number one.”

Anthony, thank you for putting your trust in Ralph’s Transmission and we’ll be here to help if and when you decide to get the internal inspection completed. If you do have a failing torque converter, you will want to get it addressed sooner rather than later.
