Chevy Traverse Owners Address Transmission Problems at Ralph’s Transmission

A man inserts a new part in the underbelly of a car.Sometimes, it pays to be diligent. This was the case for Tim and Kim, who drive a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse. They noticed their vehicle was having issues when shifting between 2nd and 3rd gears during acceleration. They thought it might be a transmission problem, but wanted to get an expert opinion. That’s why they called Ralph’s Transmission to schedule a free transmission inspection.

The diagnostics revealed a fault code in the Powertrain Control Module, and the technicians did notice a slight surge in the road test—similar to what the customer was describing. However, it was clear there was an engine issue at hand. One of the cylinders was misfiring significantly during the drive. The transmission may have also been affected, but our recommendation was to get the engine problem dealt with first. Then, we could properly re-evaluate the transmission once the engine was working correctly. We referred a local general auto repair shop to take a look at the engine and provide their recommended repairs.

A couple weeks later, Tim and Kim brought their Traverse back to Ralph’s Transmission. The cylinder was no longer misfiring, but there was still the same shifting issue as before. With the engine issues resolved, we could focus on the transmission. Further internal inspection revealed a failing torque converter and several other damaged components. A full custom transmission rebuild was recommended. The torque converter and all other worn parts were replaced and the transmission was completely rebuilt.

Ultimately, Tim and Kim were able to get their Chevy SUV running right again. The engine was fixed and the transmission was properly rebuilt by our transmission rebuild experts. Not only that, the work is covered by our industry-leading 3 Year, 100,000 Mile Warranty.

“Great friendly staff, honest and helpful,” writes Tim in his recent Google review of Ralph’s Transmission. “Will definitely use them anytime we need this type of work.”

Tim, thank you for patience throughout this process and for sharing your feedback. Hopefully, the Traverse runs well for many years to come now that these issues are resolved. If you ever experience any transmission issues, just remember the warranty and the team at Ralph’s Transmission will be here to help!
