GMC Van Owner Gets Transmission Rebuilt at Ralph’s Transmission
Tim owns a 2012 GMC Savana 3500 with nearly 200,000 miles on it. Needless to say, this heavy duty cargo van has been a workhorse for him throughout the years. Recently, he began noticing some significant transmission issues. It was delaying when shifting into first gear. Then it would jump and slam the vehicle abruptly when engaging into gear. Tim decided to get an expert diagnosis, so he brought his van into Ralph’s Transmission for a free transmission inspection and diagnostic testing.
“Great experience from start to finish, from the initial contact with Mario to Bri handling the scheduling and all the paperwork,” Tim says.
Our road test confirmed the low-gear shifting and shuddering issues that Tim was experiencing, as well as slipping in all forward gear ranges. Diagnostic testing revealed a fault code related to the shift solenoid 1 valve. Inspection of the transmission fluid showed the fluid was severely discolored, which is generally a sign of internal transmission damage. Lastly, our technicians also found a fluid leak near the rear engine area, which is a common sign of a failing rear engine seal.
Internal inspection revealed a number of damaged components inside the transmission. Most notably, the torque converter was failing along with numerous other parts. The bell housing itself also had damage and needed to be replaced. The best recommendation was to completely rebuild the transmission. All damaged parts were replaced and the transmission was rebuilt by one of our transmission rebuild specialists in the shop—a service backed by our 3 Year, 100,000 Mile Warranty coverage.
During the process, we also replaced Tim’s rear main engine seal and cover. We flushed the transmission cooler and lines with a hot flush machine to remove any old fluid contaminants. The transmission filter, fluid and pan gasket were all replaced with a standard transmission service. It was a lot of work, but the vehicle needed it and Tim was grateful to have his Savana back on the road.
“Top notch service and not to mention my truck is running great,” Tim adds. “Thank you Ralph’s Transmission! I will be referring you to all my friends and family.”
