Truck Owner Drives 450 Miles to Ralph’s Transmission for a Transmission Rebuild!
Jeff lives down in San Diego, which is almost 450 miles away from Modesto. He was experiencing transmission problems with his 1997 Ford F-250 4×4 (with more than 200,000 miles on it), but wasn’t getting the help he wanted at his local shop in San Diego. We aren’t not exactly sure how Jeff found out about Ralph’s Transmission, but he was impressed enough to drive all the way up and have his transmission rebuilt at our Central Valley shop.
“I drove over 450 miles to get my truck Ralph’s Transmission,” Jeff writes in his recent Yelp review. “The girls up front are friendly and professional. AFTER a BAD experience with a transmission shop in San Diego, I decided I would drive my truck to Modesto with its missing 2nd gear. I-5/99 all the way and really no trouble to get a better transmission REBUILD and a great warranty.”
We’re not sure we’d recommend driving that far without 2nd gear, but clearly Jeff was determined to get his truck worked on at Ralph’s Transmission. Once we got it in the shop, our technicians ran diagnostics and performed a full internal inspection. The diagnostic tests revealed an exhaust pressure sensor fault code. A thorough internal inspection revealed a failed intermediate sprag clutch that basically eliminated the use of 2nd gear in the transmission. There were many other damaged components in Jeff’s transmission, including the torque converter, solenoid pack and numerous other minor parts that needed to be replaced.
A full custom transmission rebuild was the only option to fix all these internal issues. Our rebuilt specialists dismantled the transmission and professionally cleaned all the good parts. Then, all faulty parts were replaced as the transmission was rebuilt from the ground up. Once it was back in the truck, we performed a road test to make sure everything was working properly. Every transmission rebuild we perform at Ralph’s Transmission is backed by our 3 Year, 100,000 Mile Warranty, so Jeff knows he is covered if he ever experiences any more transmission issues.
“I have told my friends in San Diego if they need a transmission Ralph’s is the place to go,” Jeff adds. “Thank you Mario for having a great business in Modesto. Maybe you could open a second shop in San Diego? Great weather year-round, with the ocean/beaches nearby and Disneyland only a couple hours (if riding AMTRAK) or less from here depending on traffic. I will take any vehicle to RALPH’S for transmission work in the future. I was definitely worth paying a few dollars more for a much more professional experience!”
We sure wish we could open a second shop in San Diego, but we’re proud to be a Central Valley business through and through. Thank you, Jeff, for having enough faith in our team to drive your truck all the way up here for the transmission rebuild, and of course for sharing your feedback in this awesome review!
