Robert drives a 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 with over 300,000 miles on it. Recently, he noticed his speedometer wasn’t working and his check engine light was illuminated. Though these may not seem like transmission issues, Robert knew they could be related. The check engine light is often a “catch all” for any number of automotive problems. In many cases, it will come on because of a transmission issue. When paired with a malfunctioning speedometer, Robert knew it was worth having the local transmission experts at Ralph’s Transmission check it out.
Our technicians performed a transmission inspection and found no issues with the transmission itself. It was overdue for a transmission service, but there were no major concerns. Diagnostic testing revealed a fault code related to the powertrain control module. It wasn’t communicating effectively with a number of sensors throughout the truck. Upon further inspection, it was clear the powertrain control module had been replaced with a remanufactured unit at some point. It was failing and causing these problems that Robert was experiencing.
Ultimately, our technicians were able to replace the faulty powertrain control module with a new unit. It was installed and thoroughly tested to ensure everything was working properly, including the speedometer. In addition, we performed a standard transmission maintenance service to replace the transmission fluid, filter and pan gasket.
“Ralph’s has done a great job on my Dodge RAM 1500,” Robert says. “It runs like a new truck. I will always use them for any of my transmission problems. Thank You Ralph’s Transmission.”
Thank you, Robert, for putting your trust in Ralph’s Transmission and for sharing your feedback in a review.
