RAM Truck Owner Gets Speed Sensor Replaced at Ralph’s Transmission

Mark drives a 1997 Dodge RAM 2500 with more than 350,000 miles on it. It is a true workhorse truck he’s relied on for many years. He had a remanufactured transmission installed by another shop roughly 40,000 miles ago. Unfortunately, he began experiencing transmission problems. The vehicle would slip out of gear in overdrive when the weather was cold outside.

“I had a shifting problem with my transmission,” Mark says. “All the shops I called I never felt comfortable dealing with them until I heard a advertisement on a local radio channel for Ralph’s. I called them and talked to Mario. He said bring it in the next morning.”

Once our transmission technicians were able to run diagnostic tests and inspect the transmission, a few key issues were discovered. Diagnostics revealed multiple powertrain fault codes. A transmission fluid inspection showed the fluid level was good, but the fluid quality was poor. It was dark and discolored. The truck was definitely overdue for a transmission service.

After further road testing and inspection, it was determined the primary shifting issue was happening because of a failing speed sensor and pigtail harness connector. We were able to replace these two damaged parts and perform a standard transmission service to replace the fluid, filter and pan gasket on Mark’s truck.

“The transmission is operating like new,” adds Mark.

That is always our goal. Whether it’s a relatively minor fix like this or a major transmission repair or rebuild, we want to get our customers safely back on the road with a transmission that is running right. We were happy to help Mark solve his shifting problem.
