The History of Ralph’s Transmission

When Ralph Perry first opened his small transmission shop back in 1969, little did he know that it would even still be around 50 years later. He benefited from choosing a great place to locate the shop, right in the heart of downtown Modesto on 9th Street. As the city (and the entire Central Valley) continued to grow up around the business over the years and decades, the shop itself continued to expand and evolve.

Even early on, customers knew they could count on Ralph and his team of knowledgeable automotive mechanics to help with their transmission repair and maintenance needs. It was a family business with strong local ties, which made Ralph’s Transmission a name that people could trust as big chain auto repair shops and other competitors flooded the market. This was a place where you could always expect friendly service and quality work.

Ralph’s continued to thrive, but eventually the business fell on some harder times with the turn of the millennium. The building was getting deteriorated and the equipment had become outdated. It came time for a decision to either close Ralph’s Transmission for find a new owner who could bring it back to its glory days. Enter Mario and Maria Jauregui, Central Valley natives and past owners of several successful transmission shops throughout the region.

The Jaureguis were looking to open a new shop in Modesto, where they have lived for many years and are raising their family of six children. That’s when they came across Ralph’s Transmission and they immediately saw potential. It had an ideal downtown location and a big facility. They purchased the business from Ralph and spent the better part of a year renovating the property from the ground up. All new equipment was brought in (including new heavy duty lifts that were the most recent upgrade) and everything was redone. Many new transmission technicians and service specialists have been added to the team, as well.

Ultimately, Mario and Maria breathed new life into Ralph’s Transmission and brought it into the 21st Century with a fresh look and a revitalized spirit. They also introduced new service standards, including the 3 Year, 100,000 Mile Warranty on all custom transmission rebuilds performed at the shop.

Mario and Maria opted to keep the Ralph’s name because it has such a long-standing history and reputation in the Modesto community. They even kept the old sign up on the street, even though it doesn’t quite match their new logo and color scheme. Also, they wanted to uphold the timeless traditions of quality customer service that this business was founded upon. It is still a locally owned and family-run business committed to making a positive impact in the Central Valley. Hence their motto of A Commitment to Quality Since 1969.
