As any good parents will do, Lisa and her husband, Steven, jumped in to help their son when his diesel-powered 2003 Chevy Silverado wasn’t working right. It wouldn’t go any higher than 3rd gear and just felt sluggish. She called around to some local auto repair shops, but ultimately decided to bring the truck to Ralph’s Transmission in Modesto.

They sent a tow truck from Modesto to Lodi to pick it up. They did diagnostics on Monday. On Tuesday, we met with them about what it needed.”
Initial diagnostic testing of the truck’s transmission revealed several fault codes and an external inspection showed that the transmission fluid was discolored. An more in-depth internal inspection was needed. Once the transmission was removed from the vehicle and dismantled, the Ralph’s Transmission technicians were able to identify the source of the problems.
The primary problem was a failed solenoid, but other components showed severe damage, as well. This included the torque converter, the pistons, the shift valve and the filters. The rear main engine seal, rear transfer case seal, u-joint and flywheel bolts also needed to be replaced. The only recommendation was a full custom rebuild by our in-house transmission rebuilding experts. Each part that was still in good shape was cleaned and reinstalled while all damaged components were replaced before rebuilding the transmission.
