Trevor knew something wasn’t quite right with his 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. First of all, the check engine light was on. Secondly, the vehicle would sputter sometimes and feel like it wanted to turn off while he was driving. He also noticed that the engine would rev really loudly when the vehicle was in low gear. The check engine light could mean any number of concerns, including transmission problems, but the other issues clearly showed there was something wrong within the transmission.
Trevor sought the help of a transmission specialist in Modesto, so he did his research and ultimately decided to call Ralph’s Transmission. He recently wrote about his customer service experience on Yelp.
“World class service from my first phone call down to the shop,” Trevor writes. “Yvette [Ramirez, Service Advisor] was very welcoming and patient. Mario [Jauregui, Owner] was very thorough with my options and costs throughout the assessment and problem solving phase.”
First, diagnostic tests were run to determine the cause of the check engine light and see if any drivetrain-specific fault codes came up. Several issues were identified with the diagnostics, leading to a full internal inspection of the transmission by the Ralph’s Transmission technicians. Once they had a look inside, major damage was found within the transmission cooler and all the transmission fluid was burnt. The transmission cooler was completely flushed, but the other problems were so significant that the only course of action was to recommend a full custom rebuild. Damage was also found on the rear main engine seal, so that had to be replaced, as well.
Once the transmission was completely rebuilt from scratch, it was reinstalled in the vehicle and road tested to make sure it was performing as expected. The team at Ralph’s Transmission wants to cover every detail so that the transmission can be backed by the 3 Year, 100,000 Mile Warranty.
“Once ready for pick up, we were unable to pick up the car when they were open,” Trevor adds. “Mario and Maria went out of their way to meet us down at the shop late on a Sunday!”
Even though our shop is open Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00, we will almost always be able to work within your schedule. If you need to arrange a night drop-off or weekend pick-up, just give us a call and we’ll do our best to make it happen. After Trevor picked up his SUV, the ABS brake warning light came on because his left front wheel sensor was failing. He brought the vehicle back into Ralph’s Transmission. Though we don’t typically work on wheels or brakes, we went ahead and replaced the sensor free of charge because we wanted the customer to feel completely satisfied.
